Zaid Hamid on the "conspiracy theory" tarnish

I've come to the conclusion that the people who keep shouting "nutcase conspiracy theory" whenever anyone uncovers anything beneath the very thin veneer of the Great Myth perpetuated by the Industrial Financial Pharmaceutical Arms Suppliers Zionist Illuminati nexus & other mafias - are generally those who'd rather not be distracted from their pet fantasies of Human Rights & Democracy and their diet of pop music, TV and packaged consumer goods, and mundane ambitions: better flat better car better TV etc.

Such sit & watch their TV shows with their chips and don't want to be distracted from their comfortable cocoons. Religion, if fits into the picture anywhere is allotted a 2 hour slot on Fridays and somewhat more in Ramazan. But it must not get in the way of the "good life" or in their words one must "keep a balance" between Deen & Dunya.

If they were to turn off the TV and just pick up one book on the Great Game- they would wake up.

But waking up would entail far-reaching, uncomfortable change, and as Mander points out, this is exactly the sort of thing the media does not allow us to do. We become conditioned to a kind of numb passive state, and worse we become addicted to this state. We want to keep retreating into our cocoons, to paraphrase William James, we become "tender-minded." Insight is lost.

The best thing to do I've found is go on media fasts, cut out TV & newspapers completely and limit internet to once or twice a week. Then read a few good books, start learning a martial art, keep your ear to the ground, sharpen your senses, change your diet[eat less, cut down meat and eat more natural fresh fruits/vegetables/grains], pray much & guard your gaze against unlawful sights... THEN you will begin to acquire insight, inshaAllah.
